Will there be another Novice school this year? It's something I really want to participate in, but I already have plans for this weekend

But at any event we give ride alongs, and if you want some instruction, we always have pros willing to teach and spread some autocross wisdom around. All you need to do is ask. Andy: I'll be available if you need me to ride along in the AM

I've always wanted to compete in Autocross but after reviewing the DIY car classing worksheet, It seems my very stock car gets placed in a higher class because of all my "overnight parts from Juh Pan!" Can anyone clarify the strict stock replacement engine phrase? I have a prelude with all OEM honda parts except the suspension and exhaust. Also is there any discount for signing up online like on the other events? Can't wait to meet you all.

That's a whole gallon of gas these days, so it's worth it to pre-register. As for your: Sounds like you car with exhuast and suspension would be in an ST class. But you said it has other things done it. Need more clarification on your 'overnight JDM' parts to really class you.

It takes a few to be able to drive anywhere near the potential of the car . Looks Like an ST class based on the Suspension .

Me and you have enough mad vtak yo to keep it under control though. I probably will chicken out in my car if its still liquid sunshiny, my car is not enjoyable to drive in those conditions. Maybe I will steal Frodo's PAX machine in the morning...

GREAT SCHOOL EVERYONE!! Thank you all for coming out despite the conditions! A lot of fun and smiling faces by all as usual.
Big shout out to Joe Austin for joining us this weekend. Great guy out of NY stopping to see how our region is and give us a hand. Thank you Wendell for making the trek down from VA to give us a hand. Long drive on a Saturday morning with questionable weather forecast in your area.
All the instructors did a phenomenal job! We had a few chicken out, gained a few, had a large student turn out, but we still were able to manage it all as a team. We have such a strong group here. Thank you all!

Hopefully tonight I will post the "results" from the event. They are by no means entirely accurate but it will be some information to look at.

AJ, i wanted to echo your sentiments about Joe Austin. he was a great instructor. i wish that i werent such a complete noob. he had a lot more information than i could absorb all at once, but that is what novice school is for i guess. he even went out of his way and gave me his card in case i had questions for him in the future.
im not sure who his students were in the second run group but his first group students, Justin Price and me, came in 1st and 2nd in Novice so he was doing something right!
thanks again to everybody that made Novice school possible. now i just need some seat time to work on some things i learned!

I'd like to thank all the students and instructors who came out and braved another cold / wet event, and made it a success. Great job everyone. I hope we learned a little sumthin-sumthin.

Sometimes we, as veterans as a whole, forget who we are trying to help. We forget that terms may go straight over their head. Its further more over looked when someone is driving quite well already. Funny because Joe told me that you both had very similar bad habits and made him realize some of his own LOL. He is making the transition from Hoosiers to street tires. BIG learning curve! I'm not surprised you two came one two with his vast knowledge. SEAT TIME IS CRUCIAL!!! If ANYONE wants to get better at this sport, seat time is how you do it. Of course it is just so much FUN to get out every weekend and drive in controlled anger LEGALLY lol.

I just pulled these out really quick. Just for reference more so than anything. TIMES MAY NOT BE ACCURATE OR COMPLETE. Timing was mostly training. We didn't run numbers on the side of the cars, so they random picked stuff that looked close. Final - www.ccrscca.com/results/2013solo/nov_school_fin.htm

aww, i was hoping to see my times and compare, but all it shows is DNS. what does DNS mean?
|
|
|
Post by CoolGuy094 on Feb 26, 2013 22:33:42 GMT -5
It means Did Not Start, which is what displays if no times were recorded. Its possible that whenever you pulled up to the line, whoever was working timing couldn't find you in the system to log your times. Again, timing was a big training session and we weren't running numbers so it made it very difficult to record times in the trailer. Hopefully you were able to see your times on the timing display as you crossed the line.

Ah okay. I was able to see my times as I crossed the line, and I have a few runs on video (whenever I remembered to hit record on the gopro), but there's a few I didn't catch. Looking at those times, I think I did pretty good, as my fastest i got on video was a 43.3. I just wish I could have made it out on Sunday to be able to run in the dry and compete for real.

aww, i was hoping to see my times and compare, but all it shows is DNS. what does DNS mean? I was one of the timing trainees. Sadly, since we didn't run numbers and I am not a car/driver savant like AJ I was using the SWAG method. If you ran numbers your times are probably right If you ran a unique car some of your times are probably right If you drove a WRX or a miata your times are probably someone else's Sorry for any disappointment, hope you all still had fun and hope to see you at future events. As for your DNS, your times were probably entered on another car, but at 43.x you beat my time so I demand a rematch
