well run event today. Had a blast.
Suggestion.(loosely) run the pros first and let all us wannbes watch!!!! I learned more watching these guys (and gals) and then had the epiphany. I was 1st run group.
And probably not for this thread. I understand about a re-run if the driver points out the downed cone. But why should a driver get a re-run for a downed cone if said driver DNF'd the course 4 gates earlier? Does not the DNF negate the time at that point? If this SCCA ruling they need to rethink that. Not logical.

But all workers are volunteer, and not everyone is up on all the rules, so mistakes happen sometimes. It's best to point out errors like this ASAP. Generally they are corrected on-the-spot.

Great event, all. One of the best I've seen in many years, for too many reasons to list. Well done! Let's do it again soon!

Hey Chewbaccadefense - If you are on FB- please go check the FB event: www.facebook.com/events/list#!/events/282062071927712/ The guy who has your gage is looking for you.. I do believe he skipped his work assignment, but he's definitely new at this, and probably just completely spaced out on it. I actually talked with him as he was leaving- I thougt he was going for food, but he never came back.

Awesome course today Mike! After running Hoosiers at Zmax I don't want to ever run street tires there again!
Here's a video from my 3rd and final run of 61.4 today. Car is sitting on the trailer and awaiting inspection from Mazda.

I agree with everyone else the course and the flow today was simply outstanding. I had not raced on street tires in 10 years....forgot how much difference some sticky R-Compounds make! I think the tires were screeching the entire course ;D Regardless I had a blast pushing my daily driver for the first time!

As far as the course went, fun was an understatement. I had some issues with my sciatic nerve in my left leg which made for not to comfortable of a day but that course was the best medicine. Those "feel good " endorphins kicked in. I have not had that much fun driving that car since I bought it. Great job.

Every time I think I'm turning a corner and getting better, I go out and stink it up. Your DSP pax is a little less than my SS pax and i was off you by 5 seconds! *sigh* I guess consistency just takes time. Either way it was a great time, a great learning experience, and a great event for CCR!

Mike, I thought the course was Excellent, great use of slow and medium speed corners with nice transitions also. the High speed offset going to the big bend, was just too fun.
I heard a few people voice concern over the big bend at the end not being lined.

It did cause a couple people to DNF that only saw the second gate, but I think most adapted after their first mistake. I loved the course, but it did make me even more angry at Koni for taking this long to get the shocks in.

I had one national event, back in Kansas, that I dnf'd for the same reason...fast section leading to a quick turn sweeper section. And on my last run yesterday I took out the first outside cone for not looking ahead...ah..memories. I had fun but just couldn't put a good run together yesterday. Great course! Just what my ego needed...a little deflating...lol.

Awesome event! Awesome site! And fantastic course! My driving, on the other hand, wasn't too great. I've got a laundry-list of excuses, of course Never-the-less, my dad's car was a lot of fun and I can't wait to get my car out on zMax. Here's my fastest clean run of the day, it was a 67.something( slow ) :

This person was sure that the SCCA rule was downed cone trumps everything else no matter when it happened.

DNF, trumps everything. You get reruns for pointing out downed cones even after hitting cones because it is possible that you could have bettered your time even with a downed cone. A DNF is scored a Zero so no matter how fast you would have been, it would still have been scored a Zero.

that's the reason for going ahead and wiping out a whole row of cones rather than taking the ( be nice to the workers route) and DNF'ing ... if there is a worker in the way on down course, a downed cone, or a timing issue .. a re-run would be forth coming ... if you do the "right" thing and just accept the fact that you screwed up, go ahead and DNF .... then no re-run

Going off on a tangent here, Casino and Adam Schoonmaker were having a conversation yesterday while working corner at the TSCC event about reruns.
If there's a course with a loop in it, like we ran yesterday..... you knock a cone down on the first time through.... then have to stop to avoid a worker.... do you get a rerun? One side argued that no, you don't, because you're the one that caused the worker to have to be there, thus it's your fault and no rerun. The other side argued that since you can't point out your own downed cone, the worker shouldn't chase the cone until you've passed it again... thus if they do and they're in the way, it's not your fault and a rerun should be given.
What's the ruling there?
|

Post by CoolGuy094 on Apr 15, 2013 9:02:24 GMT -5
IMO - DNF means no rerun, period. Feel free to still stop and point out downed cones if you see them, and please don't run over course workers that happen to be in the middle of the course, but you will not get a rerun due to these things if you have already DNF'd.
On the topic of knocking down a cone on the first pass through a loop, then having to stop for a course worker your second time through the loop... I believe you SHOULD get a rerun. Also IMO - Course workers shagging cones in a loop section should NOT go reset a cone that was downed until the car has made its second pass through the loop. In the case of yesterday, there were a few situations were a course worker was "too close for comfort" after resetting a cone knocked down on a driver's first pass.
I understand that the course was altered by the driver hitting that cone, and if it remains down then the driver may be able to take some liberties with the course having that cone out of the way... and there is the possibility that if the cone were reset, the driver could have hit that cone again causing a +2... But in the case of yesterday's TSCC course the driver makes it through that loop pretty quick. There was a much shorter time span between the driver making it through the loop again, and before the second driver makes it to that section of the course for his first loop. Safer to reset the cone before the second driver arrives.
So... if the course workers were being safe and smart, they wouldn't be in the course resetting a cone you hit on your first pass through the loop when you are approaching for your second pass. If they are, that means the course worker wasn't being safe/smart, and an unsafe/unsmart course worker is NOT the driver's fault. (Unsmart is a word...) Therefore, give the driver a rerun due to the unsafe/unsmart course worker.
